However, the company is said to have paid $100 million for the licensing rights to 16 Roald Dahl books in 2018. This means that Netflix paid over $100 million for the Roald Dahl catalog.
Under the old agreement, Netflix was working with famous director Taika Waititi to turn Roald Dahl’s works into animation. Waititi’s projects include Charlie’s Chocolate Factory and its sequel, Charlie and the Big Glass Elevator, two different versions of Matilda, and the Big Cute Giant cartoon.
Netflix aims to bring Roald Dahl books to the audience in different formats in the new period. In addition to animation, the catalog will be used in live films, TV series, plays, theater, consumer products and immersive experiences, the company said in a statement.
